Just want to share an old Bench-Em 7

This old Benchmade Emerson 7 belongs to my co worker. He brought it in tonight to share with me. This was purchased up in Maine, back in what he believes was 1994 for 120$. He purchased a few of them at that price.

Titanium liners with quality jimping/texture on them and some of that good ole ATS-34. 4" blade.

Thanks for sharing that. I believe if Emerson would put out a run of those today, in the exact same shape but with current materials, it would immediately become a top seller.

I had one I bought back in the day as well, unfortunately was stolen from me. I miss that knife! Thanks for sharing.

Cqc7 is a classic. I think it may well be my favourite knife of all time. I dislike how the BM models are tip down.

How does the size compare to an Emerson cqc7? I know Benchmade had two cqc7s a smaller one and a larger one. Does anyone know if they correlate to the cqc7 and the super cqc7, or the mini cqc7 and the regular cqc7?

I inherited an HD7 from a generous member. Hard pressed to find a better knife. (Even with all this old beat up one’s flaws like no detent)

Very nice BM-975 . My 970 says Hi :)

FYI: the 970 is the exact same size as a standard Emerson CQC-7. The 975 is more like a stretched out 7. While a Super CQC-7 is longer and wider, a 975 is just longer and not wider.

The only odd thing about these is that the scale screws actually thread into the G10 on the other side. Might be easy to overtorque and strip them. Other than that I love it!

BM 975... that was my gateway to Emerson's.

Later models had a insert to help prevent that.

The later models just had one insert on the blade stop pin screw. The other 3 screws on the lower end of the handle still screwed into the G10.

Funny that all the screws didn't get an insert, but I've taken my 970 apart a few times and the threads cut in the G10 seem sturdy. It would take a fair bit of overtorque to strip them.

All this talk makes me want a 975 to compliment my 970. Time to hunt...

Lots of great information here. Thanks for checking in guys, I always love being educated. 1990-2005 offered many of my favorite quality knife designs.

The same person also brought in his new Umnumzaan the same evening. He also carries a nice 2007 Emerson Police utility and a CRK shadow. Sometimes his Dozier body guard as well. I'm so happy I work with a knife nut.

He started long before I. He picked up that Emerson and CRK when I was in grade school.

Later models did have the 3 handle screw inserts, basically the same type of inserts that Strider uses.

Kind of like the AFCK liner lock then? I think mine had the inserts.

I was looking at the screws and wondering if they were threaded through the steel liner or just the G10.
I'm sure it was plenty tough but there is always room for improvement when it comes to morons taking things apart. :). I've been that moron.

My apologies if it seems like your thread is being derailed with the disagreement

The first models were just screwed into the G10 which could be stripped out if not careful, later on Benchmade started selling the models with the 3 handle inserts to prevent this. If you happened to have the model with just the G10 you could send it back to Benchmade and they would " update " your G10 model with the inserts... it's been a long time obviously, but I think there was a $25 charge for this.

Not derailed at all. This conversation is just what I had hoped for. When is mentioned the AFCK that was also more of a question than a statement so I added the (?)

If the knife wasn't such a classic and was actually mine I would have taken it apart to check it out.

I can't help you on the AFCK, never was much interested in them

You might post your question in the Benchmade forum here, I'm sure you get all kind of information on it there.
