folks who scored the D2 118 off the latest Web Specials. Based on the wonderful photos posted to date, that is one terrific looking knife and IMHO, a wonderful addition to everyone's collection, large or small.

P.S. If anyone decides to put one to good use in the field please give us a report on how it performs. TIA

If anyone from Buck is reading this thread, I'd be curious how many of these there were.

I've used it and found it to perform nice, very similiar to 440C both thick at the edge. DM

Thanks.

Great knives.

Mine will not get used except as display knives.....especially since I have one of each stamp type.

I've got plenty of 440C users and I don't use much anymore.......too busy hunting knives to hunt deer.

:)

Saw one of these on the Bay today for $160, BTW.

Well,i'm lucky enough to be getting one,and i plan o usingn it thats for sure! The first thing we are going hunting for this fall is a moose, hope we get one,i'll get plenty of pics using it if we are lucky enough to get a moose.

I am very lucky to even be seeing one of these,a fellow forum member(PostfallsIdaho)Jim,has gone above and beyond to makle sure i got one, thanks Jim!All of your pics look great, those knives are meant to perform ,what a combo, the old style blade in new fangled steel.LOL.iF ITS ANYTHING LIKE 440C OH BOY I can hardly wait.

I see one for a bit less than that, but still double the purchase price. I like the description, bought "a while ago". Yea, last week.

There were some of these sold at least six months ago, maybe more, so "a while ago" could be true.

My Dad has the phenolic handled version with D2 steel. It is some good stuff. I used it somewhat, and really loved it. I don't know exactly what steel I would compare it to, because it is tool steel, but it takes one heckuva edge, and holds it quite nicely. I hope Buck offers more of these in the future! :D

Yeah, I laughed at that, too.

I saw two yesterday, one BIN at $119 and one at $159. I'll be watching them to see if they get it.

I don't see Buck offering any more D2 after the 118 blades are all gone.

I say that....because I think there are increased production costs with D2 or any real premium steel and Buck (right now at least) appears to be listening to the bean counters who insist on simplicity, elimination of production steps and also hate the notion of providing something extra at extra cost (which is usually a low-profit venture).

Oh well.....maybe some risk-taking genes will show up in the next generation.

Another issue is that D2 is not a stainless steel......just an "almost" stainless steel. So some users may fear rust. In my opinion it's not a real issue if you take even minimal care of your knife.

I got a couple of these in one of the first D2 118 web specials. Some of you may remember that they were not marked 118... And they came in a 105 sheath.

Used them this past deer season with excellent results. Both in quartering and processing back in camp.

Won't replace my 110 for gutting, but may for the rest. If I can put down the 121. I still like the 121 for reaching in and peeling out the back strap and cutting loose the quarters.

But time will tell if the sharpness of the D2 will outdo the 121. I doubt it will replace the S30V on the 110's

I have one waiting for me at my buddy's house, now I just gotta get it past the wife..........

Good info, J.

And those guys didn't appear to know about the 2002 run.

I'd love it if some stag D2 118s showed up on the website!!

:)
