I have an even better appreciation for what CRK products offer.

I always knew in "big picture" terms what it takes to make a folding knife. I was impressed as I watched the employees at CRK make both the fixed blades and the folder (Sebenza).

I was equally impressed watching the piece on Gfeller Casemakers - the leather sheath maker for CRK fixed blades. The sheath is typically something that I never give much thought to - but there is almost as much that goes into them as does the knives.

The passion that Chris and Anne have for their knives and their business is phenomenal. It is obvious that Chris is a perfectionist, and it shows in his knives.

I never really had a problem paying the freight for a CRK - and that video made it even easier to justify the price tag for their products.

If you like knives, especially CR knives, you should try to get a copy to watch - it's well worth the 2 hour time investment. It was shot in 2006 - before the Umnumzaan, Ti-Lock and Nyala were added to the line up. I was loaned a copy from a friend - who told me that Chris and Anne started selling them again.

I wish they would do a Volume 2.

It is an awesome DVD but I do wish they had used someone else for the interview and factory walkthrough. She was a bit annoying specially the narrated self dialogue they put in. Other than that it was great seeing what goes into making a CRK and the amazing people who work their. It was also awesome they gave some background info on Mr. Reeve's roots/origins and other hobbies.

I have to agree, even though I have met and like the "knife and life" team she was a bad choice IMO.

Fair enough, but she was part of the team that did the DVD - it wasn't sponsored by CRK as far as I know. Somewhere a few layers down I found it interesting to see how a very different culture sees knives and America. Definitely a different perspective than you'd get if, say, Blade magazine had done the DVD. :D

She was a little tough to take at times - but she was very enthusiastic and she did carry a Sebenza!

LOL - it was interesting, and she was really hilarious at times.
I swear though at times it seemed like this was designed to be a manual for the counterfeiters. How about that part toward the end where she removes each piece of paper from the box and gets a close up shot. "oh and what is this?, And what is this? and what is this?" "Woooooow! - that's FAIRLY COOL". The DVD would have been half as long if they didn't show her trying to do each and every step of the manufacturing processes herself. I did really enjoy the video, it was just really bizarre at times... lol

I'm told that you can get them from CRK again. They stopped selling them - but someone just told me that CRK is selling it again.

If not - there was a pass around a few months back - you might be able to resurrect that thread and see if you can borrow it.

As a CRK fan, I was more than satisfied. It was a neat look into how all our favorite toys get produced, and the people who produce them.
As a former journalism major, I was bitterly disappointed. The production values were nil; the whole thing seemed to be a mix of badly edited camcorder footage with a bit of stock footage here and there. I don't even think they had proper sound work done.

Haha my thoughts exactly! She was cheesy and annoying, and it is long and poorly edited/filmed etc. I couldn't help but think why is some random Taiwanese "magazine" the one doing this? I also wondering about what other videos they have as they show footage from Spyderco and others, but I can't find any other DVD's by "Knife & Life".

They are not really a random knife magazine but to the rest of the world they are probably not well known. They actually organise the Taipei knife show that has become quite a calendar date in the Asian knife scene. There will be some heavy hitters from outside Asia attending this year too. They also attended Blade Atlanta and did a few interviews with makers there. I think most of their stuff is printed rather than produced as videos though.
While I found that the CRK DVD was just short of ruined by the woman we all love to hate, I would very much like to see how well the likes of BLADE magazine would do stumbling through a Chinese language interview in Taiwan. :) ;)

Not to mention that they actually did the video and no one else has. It may not be perfect, but it's pretty darned good, and it's tons better than nothing. :)
