I have noticed that all of LMS I have seen have talon holes. I have a LMS with bead-blasted finish, black micarta, and no talon holes. Does anyone know how many were made this way. Are LMS like mine rare? I'll try to post a photo of it.

Countryboy, sorry I can't be much help, my LMS came with the holes. I am sure Jerry or Dave could help ya though

Thanks guys. I just wonder why it was made this way.

if my knife was one of five prototypes! I bought it second hand in brand new condition and haven't used it for anything but opening letters (my Basic 9 tackles most of my heavy cutting). I guess I sould take good care of it. Even if it isn't a prototype, it's a great little knife.

Thanks again guys

Yep, you've got yourself a rare one. . . . Less than ten ever left the shop this way.
The blades were supposed to be heat-treat samples (these are the ones we break and bend)therefore no need for the trademark talon hole. Well, we ran more test knives than we needed and you've got yourself one. Nice find.

I have one of those as well...Mine has the asymetrical edge. Are all of the same edge configuration?

While we are on the subject. To my understanding, there were 107 LMSs made. Do we know how many "tan" and how many "black" ones were made?

Didn't you get one or two of those proto's from me at the Nashville Show?
