Ok guys this is a just for fun post..Lets say you have to justify every knife purchase to your significant other......These are some of my reasons that I've told the wife.....I NEED A
1- Boy scout knife (I think this started my love of knives at the tender age of eight or nine maybe, everyone should own a scout knife in my opinion)
2- Good hunting knife for deer...(This excuse has accounted for several nice knives that began at the age of 12)
3- Hunting knife for small game..(Everyone knows you need a differant knife to clean small game)
4- Camping knife (large enough to hack wood for fires and a little added self protection, can't mess up the hunting knives)
5- Fishing Knife (just a simple fillet knife with a sheath)
6- Every Day Carry or EDC (Used to be lock blades around 4-5 inches but lately I'm growing into tradional folders)
7- Pocket knife (Can't always just whip out the EDC,sometimes you need to be a little suttle)
8- Machete (almost forgot this one,who needs hedge clippers when you own a good machete...When my neighbors hedges grow threw , up and over my fence the machete is "on the job")

Ok thats my eight honest to goodness reasons right there..I actually had most of those knives before I met the wife but,,she didn't know...So now I have some doubles and triples:)

What are some other good reasons that aren't just "I want it".?...Reasons that make your wife/husband realize that..."You need this knife to serve a purpose".....

Most recent justification:

I had to replace the knife airport security took away. I didn't think about it being in my pocket until I was up front in the line, tried to go ship it to myself but no stores were open in the airport at the time. That was an easy justification, as she was along with me.

You guys are going about it all wrong. No significant other, no excuses required. :D

my girlfriend likes knives and she gets a kick out of being there with me when I receive new ones, so no problem. last week though, she had my damascus Barrage with her and was flicking it open and closing it while watching TV. she said she was making a couple of dog collars and she used it to push-cut some paracord. before that, she made a lanyard for one of my Leeks then put it in her purse!

Well recently I was able to convince my better half that we needed a hay knife. Because we actually need one. :p

Looks more like a saw--you use it to cut slices off a round bale so the rest of it doesn't get rained on while the horses are eating the first slice. :D

(Not my photo--and the guy is holding it wrong :foot::D)

When my wife asks why I need another knife I ask her why she needs 50 pairs of shoes and a plethera of handbags.

There's no need for an excuse. You like your toys. It's that simple.

She likes her toys too. I like knives, she likes purses and shiny things. As long as we both get to have our toys, there isn't any problem.

That is about as correct as it gets. I do not need to justify my purchases no matter what they are, neither does she. The bills are all paid, the car gets paid, the groceries are always stock, a responsible outlook is always an admirable trait.

Agreed!

Most recent excuse I used was "Hey look what on won on a BladeForums Giveaway!!!" :D:D:D Too easy..... HAHA!

She has her expenses. I have mine.

Well,Its kind of turned into a game...Everytime were at the mall or a flea market and she sees me buying another knife. I always tell her exactly why I need it or what its for. She usually just giggles and shakes her head. We paid the house off 4 years ago and both make good money so no excuse or justification is needed. I just like to make her laugh..(Been doing it for 18 years)...

Now I can say. Airport security took this one and this is our new"Hay knife" BTW thanks guys....Also the next one in the mail box will be..I won that from the cool dudes at BLADEFORUM...

No offense to anyone here; I know how it is lol, trust me. But now days I seriously don't justify my knife purchases or any other purchase to anyone. When someone tells me I'm crazy if I'm carrying a knifes that costs hundreds of dollars, I just find something to tell them they're crazy for spending money on. (people are easy, everyone has vices. Oh but you spend thousands a year on cigarettes, excessive clothing, jewelry, going to expensive clubs and spending hundreds on 14 dollar drinks.)

Don't justify your knife purchase to anyone, If you go out and make your money, spend it on your wants and needs. It's my honest opinion that relationships where people have to justify things to each other and make excuses why they want and need things only causes an 'inconvenient' relationship. Don't ask permission to spend your own money.

There are some exceptions of course. If you have kids/family to fend for, or survival is necessary because of lack of funds, then buy a nice buck 110 and a good fixed blade and gravitate towards a cheaper hobby. lol :D

When I spend hundreds on a knife, I say I earned it, I paid for it, I want to carry it so I will. To anyone who asks.
When I spend 15+ on one cigar, I say I earned it, I paid for it, I'll smoke it if I want to. To anyone who asks.
Same goes for lighters, vehicles. and any other shiny thing I want. What the hell else is there in life.... lol

You have to be your own person in life now days. Either that or the bad guys (douche bags with no personality) win. Or something like that.

Oh and I nearly forgot to add my excuse:

Knives are like fine art when well crafted, I admire fine art, and I enjoy carrying fine art with me, so as I may look at it to soothe my soul when needed. I also like to collect fine art :) ... lots of fine art from artists...like...benchmade...and spyderco....

I go by the philosophy of it's better to apologies after the fact then justify it before hand, I get the knfe that way, also:
