Hello. I've decided to give a custom folder a try. I've been looking at many different ones online and have run across a nice framelock by John W Smith. It looks to be quite a nice knife. My question concerns the "toughness" of these folders. I've seen a lot of very fancy folders by this gentleman, and I naturally wonder if the tactical folders he builds are going to make good using folders. I plan on carrying this folder in my edc rotation, and especially on occassions when I want to carry something a litle different from the ordinary, and maybe something to brag on! I mean no disrespect to this maker by the posing of my question. Any replys would be much appreciated!:D

buy it, you will like it.

'Nuff said(unless you are Cleft Stumpp)

I own two JW Smith tactical folders. Both have perfect fit and finish, extremely well ground blades with sharp, durable edges, and rock solid lock up with no blade play. They are built like tactical knives, not art knives. Coincidentally, I'm selling one of the two - it's on The Knife Exchange here. I would have said the same before deciding to let one go. I plan to keep the other one in my permanent collection.

JWS's knives are of the highest caliber. It's the best tactical folder I've ever owned.

Buy it. One of his 4" blade framelocks is in my EDC rotation. Smooth opening, locks up like a vault, excellent fit and finish at a great price. JW is the man.

Guess that settles it! Knife is being purchased and should be here on Saturday. Btw, samhell, the one I've purchased is also a 4" bladed framelock. I really like the looks of it, and from the stated weight of the knife (6.6 ounces) it must be pretty heavy duty? Looking forward to it!!:D

very smooth opening, very good fit and finish. I like the way JW etches his stamp on the bottom of the tang as well. very nice.

JW, is as good as they get.
I don't care if you're talking an Art knife or a tough utility knife.
They don't get any better.

I've seen a lot of J.W. Smith folders, and NEVER have I found anything that could be considered a flaw. Buy it, you won't be sorry!
