I was in the local discount beer mart doing some shopping for the weekend, and saw johnnie walker blue in a big bottle for $200 bucks behind the locked cage. Is that stuff really that expensive or was the place i went to just full of knuckleheads? I have heard much about it, and thought to try some if i ever ran across it, but at that kind of $$ i think not. Need more info.

:D :D :D

Define "Big bottle". $200 is pretty fair for a liter if I'm not mistaken. I'm not even sure that it comes in anything larger than that. I can only afford it in sips...

If it was like a 1 liter size then that would be a pretty good price. You'd be suprised how many doors would open for you with a gift like that. :D

A buddy of mine just went on a cruise in the Dominican. They were able to purchase fifths for $135 each!

The chump brought back a total of ONE! I no longer talk to that dog. :D

Around 200 for a fifth is about what you can expect to pay. A store owner told me one time his wholesale price was $145, but I have no way of confirming that.

No doubt about it - JWB is for scotch connoisseurs with a refined palate and equaly refined wallet. :)

I number myself among those with neither. :o I am happy enough with Pig's Nose or Dewar's or if I'm feeling especially lavish maybe Glenfidditch, Pinch, or Chivas (umm).

I look back on the days when I thought Cutty Sark was the Hell's Bells (still not that bad for the price.)

If anyone but me goes for scotch where the little story on the back of the label features smoke, peat and iodine I'd suggest Lagavulin as a great bargain, especially for 16 yr. old scotch (at least around here).

Huh??? They put iodine in scotch? Reminds me of the movie "Mr. Roberts" where the imitation scotch that they were trying to make for Jack Lemmon contained a concoction of several ingredients including iodine - Yuk!!

Yup, here in Washington we have state liquor stores and JWB is $200 for a fifth. Thats way out of my league. The guy in the liquor store said that the warehouse has some boose that is $400 a bottle...he did not elaborate as to what it was.

FWIW, I just got a bottle of crystal clear hooch (hand made) that is 180proof, thats 90% alki.

Ciao

You just have to learn to sip it slow. :D

JWB is yummy (and pricey), I still prefer the Lagavuin 16yo. Cant beat a good Islay. :)

I'd bet you said the same thing about Busse knives once. I know I did.

Some booze lasts only if you sip it slow, busse knives last forever. ;)

Isn't that the truth? A year ago, I swallowed my anxiety and ponied up for a Meaner Street from Skunk. Now I only really wince if the price exceeds $600. My wife would stroke out if she knew how much I've spent for those I've acquired since then.

A couple of years ago, I bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue at the Duty Free shop on the way back from Costa Rica. At $130.00 a bottle, it seemed like a good deal since a bottle here costs over $200.00 and a glass at a bar is over $40.00. After finishing half the bottle, I don't think that it's as good as a premium well aged single malt. For the money, I'd rather buy a bottle of 25 year old Macallan, but that's just my opinion. On another topic, I was just in Louisville this weekend and found that I'm definitely developing a taste for the fine burbon whiskeys...especially Knob Creek.
