So my Composite JYD came in and I just love it. I needed a heavy duty knife to use as a general working knife and I think it's going to do awesome. Anyways, my wife loves it too. She wants one, but without the "waves on the blade" and with some girlier looking grips. Now I know there are the 'Crypto glow' (sp?) grips that come in all sorts of colors on Ebay but she doesn't want them to glow. Are there any options out there for me. I'm very surprised she likes a knife enough to want one so I would like to get it for her.

Nothing that won't require a significant waiting period as far as I know. Tuffthumbz could make some in G10 or Philip Dobson in wood. I don't know that Philip is making scales and things at the moment. He's probably organizing his carabiners and cams in preparation to go hang off the side of a mountain somewhere.

I would talk to the guy you mentioned. He has made me a special order grip recently. He might still have the patterns so u might not even have to send him the knife to make then. I think he does non glow in the dark too.

Make her some yourself. She will really appreciate even more.

Without the proper equipment, making G10 scales can be hazardous to one's health, especially the fiberglass dust which needs to be avoided using a respirator.

I heard that the normal JYD 2 with 14C28N steel (without the brazing "wave marks") is no longer in production but it should be still available from retail channels. The composite blade version still remains in production for 2012.

Just my relatively worthless 2 cents.

You can make your own...pretty much all you need is a Dremel tool, and a respirator. Having a belt sander and a drill press helps also.

Here's a couple of pics of one I did. G10 scales, added choil and modded clip.

Hm, that looks nice. Unfortunately all I have out of those tools is a dremel. I actually talked to Kryptoglow and got a non glow scale for my HEST 2.0. So based on what I think of that I may pick some up for my JYD. My wife has since decided she wants something smaller. So now I am on the hunt for a smaller flipper. I suggested the Skyline but she doesn't like it.
