Hey everyone, I've been out of the Kershaw game for a long while, but Kershawguy's DLC JYD II has dragged me back in. I received the knife today and was surprised to find it had a very weak detent. Is this par for the course? I haven't seen much posted about the JYD's detent, although it now makes sense why it's uber smooth.

I'm definitely not complaining here, I actually enjoy a weaker detent since it usually means a smooth knife. However, I know this is definitely not the typical outlook. Can anyone else chime in?

Can't say about dlc but the reg cb 2.2 I've owned had good detent/ awesome deployment!

Well I didnt try one from kershaw guy but I got to handle one at a shop three weeks ago that wasnt a second and it had one of the best detents and flipping action of any kershaw that didnt have KVT. I was actually really amazed. But It has been said before that detents arent the most predictable aspects of a knife build and there will be varied strengths in all models.

actually just noticed the model I handled was a CB model as well.

I have one of the DLC JYDs, and the detent is about medium strength. If you're not happy with it, just send Kershawguy an email and tell him the situation.

The detent on mine is on the weaker side but I can get it to flip open in all directions. Vertical, Horizontal, etc.

I need to take it apart and find out why It's all gritty now. I suspect some dirt got in the detent ball path.

Yeah the detent on my composite blade JYD was pretty weak which is why it was only tip down. It was the smoothest most solid flipper I ever had EVER though

I had a couple Blems that had weaker detents but the blade was still secure and still deploy-able with a little practice.

Mine isn't a blem, but it does have a weaker detent. The blade will pop out if I give it a harsh wrist wiggle. That being said, the flipping action is extremely smooth.

Thanks for all the input guys, I really do enjoy this knife so far (after modifying the clip) and the weak detent doesn't bother me. It requires a little bit of technique, but that is easily mastered, and it deploys quite well. I will admit I'm a bit surprised that this is common, as people usually bitch and moan about weak detents on flippers, as if it's so hard to figure out the "push button" method of deployment. This also does help to explain the logic of the tip down only pocket clip.

You could always take it apart and maybe try to increase the tension on the lockbar

I just checked my DLC CB JYD, and the detent is just right in my opinion, not too weak and not too strong, flips very nicely without having to consciously use the preload method. My gray G-10 CB JYD has a bit weaker, but it still flips great, though you do have to use the preload method a bit.

My DLC was fine, but I didn't give it an "action job" yet(polish washers). I have a gray blem that you would swear had bearings its so smooth.
