How is it? I've never handled one of these "flipper" knives. I have a Leek, and I like it a lot. Does this blade deploy as quick as a Leek's? Do you have to flick your wrist? I'm liking the appearance of the gray G-10 and I know of the performance of 13C26. I'm just curiosly asking your opinions.

Excellent knife for sure. No wrist-flipping for me. Opens nice and fast with a nice "THWACK". you will enjoy for sure :D :D

I have a JYD and a JYD II with the composite blade

the JYD II opens very easily much better then the JYD I guess due to increased blade weight.

No wrist action is needed

Ditto what OL said. I've got mine adjusted so it opens in any position, with just a flick of my finger. The JYD II is one hell of a knife!

IMHO the only flaw is the pocket clip; nothing a belt sander can't fix. :D

You'll be more than pleased with a JYD II. Good luck.

I like mine too.

I've heard of some people who complain about the 'stickyness' of the scales. I took a file to mine and lightly (emphasis here) took the tops of the bumps down. Now it's still grippy, but not almost abrasive.

For a while, I was not liking the way the blade is so far forward. To me it seemed that for hard use the extra leverage of the blade would be hard to use. The closer to the hand the better hard use cutting.
But I learned how to grip the knife w/ a more 'choke up' style with my thumb on the blade. Now it works much better for me.

If you don't have a JYD2, get one!! It's definitely got a top spot on my favorite knives list!! If you're gonna get one drop the extra $$ and get the composite blade, although they're both great knives, the CB just gives it that something extra, IMO.

As far as flipping action both the JYD 2 and JYD 2 CB that I have really flip out quite easy without any wrist action. I don't know that I'd say it's quite as fast as the Leek but it's pretty dang fast for a non AO..., actually I just grabbed my Leek and JYD 2 and they both seemed to lock open almost exactly at the same time when done together. To close to call.

added a pic with a Leek for size comparison(yes I know my pics are crummy! but all knife porn is good right! :) )

Which model # is that lower JYD2. The G10 looks greyish.
The CB G10 looks solid black.

Excellent eye, serratededge!! The original JYDII's did have a dark grey colored G-10 handle, and many in that combination can still be found.

This is on of the best design from Kershaw. It is as I understand first Tim's knife in production and it just excellent in look in feel in ergo in everything.

It is not SpeedSafe, but due to excellent mechanics and balanced blade center of gravity it is hard to say. To me it is sometimes easier to flick JYDII then push leek blade out.
Do you have to flick your wrist?
Very little flick needed to deploy blade, I think less or same force to spend then pushing leek blade out.

If you want best JYDII - so far Ti/SG2 is on the top. Highly recommend. But I have Ti/SG2 as well as two regular one - it costs like a dirt! But excellent knife.

Problems - no lanyard hole, no tumbstuds, no choil:

so I modify it myself:

construction is very simple and clean - note washers are bronze, so action is very smooth.

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. And because it is as cheap as raw material I have another one just to make fancier NeedWork out of it:

Could be another short run JYD II around the corner as well. Ssshhh...it's a secret.

I love that last one Vassilli. The blade shape looks great. I already put you choil on my JYD1, but do you think I could do this blade mod on it - being the smaller version and all?

Vassili, those knives of yours look great. You do some fine work. I' getting more and more interested in this JYDII, the simple construction is cool, and so are the materials. I don't have a knife with G-10 scales, but I'm thinking this would be a good starter.

It will require serious sharpening - you will have to form edge on the blade from zero. I used DMT D8XX which is extra extra coarse -120 grit 120 microns. But anyway it require some effort.

I hope Kershaw will wide blade geometry range on JYDII - handle shape ideal and I love to see all different shapes on it.

Thanks, Vassili.

Have any of you with this knife modified or changed the pocket clip? I can tell it's kinda big, and in a weird place. Post pics of what you've done, if so.

it's a 1725 dated Feb, 07

don't know why it looks so dark in the picture(remember I take crummy pics) but it's not nearly that dark when seen in person. It's more the color of the ones seen in Vassili's pics.

I am a sick man. I just ordered one from NewGraham. But hey, it's just the second knife in my now growing Kershaw collection. :)

Nobody has put on a different pocket clip? I would think that would be a big issue...Please show your modifications if you made any.

STR has done some very nice low rider clips for the JYD. Personally, I think the clip fits with the overall design of the knife, but that's just my opinion, and we all know what that's worth...

Don't touch it, don't even dare! I see you thinking about it...don't do it!
