My Junk Yard Dog 2 has served me well. From food prep at picnics to opening packages and boxes, I really like this knife but wanted to make it my own. First was adding a choil with the trusty dremel. To be honest I disapprove of choils when it takes away from the cutting edge but in this case, I took down the flipper. It looked too much like a shark fin to me anyway.
As we all know, while the pocket clip does match the lines of the knife it does not keep a low profile. At first it didnt bother me until I noticed other parents taking notice. First I decided on doing the standard grinder sander mod taking down the points but it was still fairly large. While I liked the change, I still wanted tip up carry. I thought about tapping a few holes but the liner has been lighted which made it somewhat difficult. That got me thinking, what else can be done? Well, I decided on cutting a channel in the liner and using a clip from a 0560. Unfortunately I do not have a milling machine or even a drill press so the dremel was the only tool I had. To eliminate the need to drill and tap a screw hole I utilized the scale screw hole. The only other tools needed was a few small file, assorted pliers and a torch to heat the clip to fit properly. Sorry in advance for the lack of pics but I doubted it would even work. Im glad to say I was wrong.

After I disassembled the knife, I placed the clip on the liner centering the clip hole over the screw hole in the approximate position and put tape down as a temporary guide. I used the lower of the two holes too. With a cut off wheel, I cut two channels. With a small grinder wheel I then removed the stock between the two slots. I used files to ensure the clip would fit. A few times the dremel got away from me but didnt cause too much damage. I could have used the deep carry clip as is but it would not seat all the way when wearing jeans but it was fine for lighter clothes. I heated the clip and carefully bent until fitting. This was easier said than done but Im okay with the end result. The clip does stand out further than I care but after a few tries I left as is.

Anyway, it was a fun little project. It did take an hour to get the clip to seat perfectly in the liner and I did remove a tiny bit of material from the clip too. Just love how it hides away in the pocket. Happy modding!
