Happy Holidays from The Long Beach K-9 Officers Association.

A little bit of info.......Top row, second from left with Handler Officer Mike Parcells is Boaz....3 year old who has been clocked by radar at over 28 miles per hour.

Last dog on right in bottom row , Lucy, has found one (1) drop of kerosene on a planted spectator at a football stadium during a fourth of July fireworks show in 4 minutes thirty seconds from thousands of spectators during a break in the show. Lucy was given a rag soaked with kerosene at the middle of the field and told to "FIND THE BAD GUY ,LUCY".

Most of the K-9s can jump a 9 foot wall and one of them..I can't tell you which, is designated for hard core dudes and goes only for the testicles as he attacks. :barf:

And Happy Holidays back at ya!:) I see you guys have a bloodhound as well. Very cool. Out of curiosity, how does the bloodhound do as a dope dog, if he's dope qualified that is, compared to your shepherds and (what looks like a) malinois? Thanks and be safe!

Regards,

Happy holidays and a healthy and prosperous new year for all of you, and an extra pat on the back for each of those great dogs!

Beautiful dogs!

Happy Holidays!

Yeah my ex girlfriend was like that.

The ones not looking at the camera are the badass ones who go for the balls. Oh and Happy Holidays everyone.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I want one! I want one!

Let's hear it for Lucy. I didn't even know Bloodhounds could move that fast. Was the planted guy dropped with kerosene where he stood, or was he moving around?

And... was the kerosene test for explosives or just a test of her abilities?

Truely awesome. Those dogs and their handlers have some pretty tough jobs that they encounter. Kudos to all of them.

Merry Christmas to the Long Beach K-9 Officers Association from Kirby (my Shiba Inu) and I!!

Lucy is a "Tracker" used in runaways, cadavers and escapees. This was a test of her abilities. The plant was given a drop of kerosene at the bottom of the football stands and told to go to the top of the stands and mingle with the crowd and then find a place to sit and stay there. Lucy started from the middle of the football field and ran small circles until she picked up the scent...then it was like she was on a string...right to the guy.

My Avatar is POLICE K-9 SHILO who 3 weeks out of explosive school, during a traffic stop, found 10 9mm handguns, thousands of rounds of ammo and 80 lbs. of marijuana hidden in van walls.

T-Bag,

Thanks for the explanation. I was trying to figure out how Lucy could find the guy from the middle of the field with no starting point scent to follow in 4.5 minutes! She sounds awesome and I hope her nose and ears continue to work together in fine fashion.

Blessed be those who serve - on 2 legs or 4. Actually, since they are a team, it would be 6 legs, right?

I imagine that even though their K-9's are working dogs and on duty, they still must worry about their safety when they have found a scent. It would be like one of their children. Okay, their partner. And partner's cover each other's back.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

Merry Christmas right back at ya'! :)

This one took a guy right in the mommy-daddy button once too. We had a lot of laughs in the ER during the ultrasound.

-Well, he wasn't laughing. ;) :D

Great dog pics!

And Happy Holidays!!

Lucy is not dope qualified as she is a human tracker. We have other dogs dope qualified and explosive qualified and they periodically do duty at the airports to keep their senses sharp. We also have a new bloodhound but she is still in training...
A humorous side note----Before a junior high school assembly we hid a small bag of MJ under a seat in the auditorium. We were going to show the kids how the dope dogs work....the dog found two bags plus the one we hid under the seat.....Can we say 'embarassing' !! :D

Collies? Probably thwarted by the throw the ball syndrome some clever baddies use.

How does one know that a Police Dog has a sense of humour, see if it likes the test-tickle.

Have a great Christmas.
