OK - from being around the forums for a while, I think I know what the answer is but have to ask.

I am looking at the K-Bar 12 5/8 Heavy Bowie, made from 1085 Carbon and the Cold Steel Recon Scout made from Carbon V. However, I want to go with the K-Bar but it is made in Taiwan. As such, I guess I am just looking for some advice.

Thanks all.

If it is in stock, I would buy the Cold Steel, since I think Carbon V is a better steel and it is a better all around knife, but they are very scarce right now, so your options may be limited. The Kabar is also a fine knife and a great bargain also. I really don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Thanks.

I kinda figured it may be a bit difficult to find the carbo v.

I also just received my K-Bar Impact D2 and can't even describe it. As such, I will probably go with another K-Bar.

I also just recived my Bark River SOCOM, which is in another class all together.....

I'm happy with the 1095 blade on my Ka-Bar... Takes one hell of an edge too (barely knicked myself in the finger last night and it was still bleeding in the morning!)

The 1095 on Ka-Bar takes an insanely sharp edge, with very little effort. I put an edge on the Impact Tanto I got a little while back with a $5.00 pocket sharpener, stropped it on a leather belt, and it's so sharp it's push-cutting things with the weight of the blade alone.

I wasn't all that happy with the handle size and shape on the Impact series when I first recieved it in the mail, but the knife has really grown on me. Partly, because I figured out how to hold it a little better--really choke up on the blade.

But mostly, it's the steel. :)
