K-Bar destruction test completed:

The Warthog cuts very well out of the box easily slicing an orange and peeling
an apple. It mad some razor thin slices from the apple.

Chopping: Is not very good with its short blade and it's light weight. It will chop but requires a lot of effort and energy to do so.

Splitting: Was easy on smaller diameter 2x4s but with it's short blade length
wouldn't handle a 4x4.

Metal:I cut the top off of a acetone can very easily dulling the blade. It was still able to cut the 10,000 pound webbing all though it took a lot of effort.

Prying: I pryed 1/4" nailed plywood. Removing if from it's frame. Then tried to pry 2 2x4s screwed together I really flexed the blade during this. The tip bent slightly at one point. I reversed the blade and bent it back straight.

Flexing: The tip broke at about 25 degrees.

Concrete: The blade tackled this fine never chipping out just denting the rear part of the edge became slightly deformed.

Hammering: I hammered the Back of the blade many times. even though the blade is very thin this was no problem for the knife. I hammered it tip first into concrete splitting the bricks just as I did with the Strider BT. The Warthog tip never bent or failed during this.

Overall: the K-bar Warthog is a good cutting, hammering, prying ,tough workhouse The only downside is it' lack of chopping abilities. Also it has a fantastic Kydex sheath.

The videos are in 6 parts posted on www.knifetests.com

Enjoy the videos they were made for you.

Thanks for the videos as always, I haven't had a chance to watch all of the RTAK videos yet, looks like I've got some watching to do in a bit.

What do you think you are going to test next?

Your welcome. I'm working on the SOG seal 2000 and I'm getting ready to do the Glock Field Knife. Then I hope to be receiving the Busse Battle mistress and the
Scrapyard Dog Father.

Nice, I actually forgot about the jungle primative, I did watch that video, I remember checking out the handle at a store that had one in. Nice handle, too bad the rest of it is a stinker.

Nice test! The knife broke very easily after just a few hits, I really didn’t expect this!

I would liked the design of the Watthog more if it was if it didn’t had the big falls edge and be flat grind. That would make it a good outdoor knife but also just be a wider version Short Ka-Bar with a bigger handle.

I’m looking forward to the Glock Field Knife test. I have one (the 78, no saw) and its tough as nails but for cutting its rubbish! The bottle opener and sheath are the best futures of the knife ;) Can you cut/saw/burn the plastic handle part away, after the test, to show us how the tang looks like?!

btw finally some steel info of the Glock is online ‘Spring steel HRC55, phosphate-treated’

Sure I'll remove the handle after the test. I just bought a nice digital camera so I can add photos to the site and so people can see what these knives look like with the handles removed.

The jungle primitive is a stinker. It chops okay but that is about it. It did better on the concrete than I thought it would.

I've heard some negative things about the SOG 2000 so it will be interesting to see what you find with your tests. It sounds like for the money you can't go wrong with a KaBar product if you go by your tests.

WadeF: I have heard some negative stuff as well on the SOG Seal 2000. According to SOG the "Seals have done their homework" We will see.

K-bars have shown their a great value and good knives.

This sounds like a very nice idea. It'll show how the tang is designed, and that's something I always wonder about on a hidden tang knife.

Thanks for the cool info! This reminds me of a bud of mine that I nicknamed " The Tool Breaker".

Pogo: Call me the knife breaker most already do. The truth is, you usually never
know this data until you tear them apart.

Hey Noss have you thought about testing the Ka-Bar D2 Impact Point to see how the D2 compares to the 1095 ?
Keep up the good work !!!

Pit man:No I haven't though of it but it is a great idea. I will add it to my list.

Thanks,
Noss4

I just watched this test in the videos.
What I see from the videos is that this K-Bar Warthog is a strong little knife, but has a few problems with it's design.

I holds up well in the tests, but seems to have really failed where I think it should have done a bit better.

It's a short knife, so thats always going to be a problem attacking thick4X4 wood. There is just not enough length sticking out to chop a 4X4 very easy.

I was a bit let down by how easy the tip of the blade snapped during the bend test.

I felt that a knife meant for outdoors should have bent but not broken as easy as this one did....

Allan Molstad: The tip did bend first when I tried to pry apart the screwed 2x4s
then by reversing the knife I bent it back straight. Also I hamered the tip in to concrete many times splitting it. It may have suffered a fracture during all of this but it did take about 25 degrees on the flex test before it broke. In my opinion the tip took a lot. I was impressed with the Warthogs performance.

well, yes, but...
When I watched you do that one part where the tip did bend,I felt at the time thats it was doing real good.
You would expect a little bending with the stuff you were tossing at that knife.

However, when you stuck it in the vise it just seemed to snap a but too early.
Thats the way it looked to me, you were twisting it, and it just seemed to snap a bit early concidering that this knife is CLEARLY meant to be used outside.

However it's a bit hard to tell how much force you had going, (You are a big guy after all) so perhaps the snapped tip was normal.

Just seemed a little too easy as i watched it.

The part where the knife snaps near the guard is to be expected.
The force of the hammer blows was what I would have used to snap that steel if thats what I wanted to do.

(I have had to listen to the videos with the sound off tonight , as my wife works in the morning and she is asleep right now, so I may have missed what you were saying and not known some of the context of what i was watching.)
