A very thick ziplock plastic bag -

1. Roughly 4' of ungutted 550 cord
2. Buck Bantam lockback folding knife (2" blade?) on yellow lanyard
3. Fox40 micro whistle
4. LED light
5. Brunton mini-compass
6. BIC lighter, large
7. Small Band-Aid
8. Medium Band-Aid
9. Large Band-Aid
10. Alcohol prep pad
11. Tylenol x2 500mg

This is my pocket kit from now on. Recently put it together after some thought. Made a strong effort to keep it simple, and light in weight.

I smoke, so an extra lighter is a plus.

Consider adding a mirror, a couple of needles, and maybe wrap a bit of duck tape around the lighter.

I like it as is. Most times I either run down to the creek behind my house w/ either 10 tons of gear or nothing at all. This kit ensures I atleast have some items handy.

Sounds like my adventures , including the creek, I would add a small firesteel to the kit.

Nice looking kit. Like you said, better to have a few items than nothing.
I like the idea of adding some thread and a needle or two. You are short on space, but...and stay with me here...but if you took out the knife you'd have a bit more space. You have a knife in your pocket anyway, right? (No one on these boards walks out the front door without a knife or two in his or her pocket.) You could substitute needle, thread, and tweezers and still have some space left over. Tweezers come in handy in so many ways and there are some very small tweezers out there. Maybe add a little tinder (jute,PJCB's) too.

What do you think?

I would add a couple water purification tabs, a oven roasting bag, and maybe a couple doses worth of Immodium in case the purification tablets don't work.;)

Good looking little kit bro, do you carry a fixed blade besides your buck? If not i would reccomend a small fixed or neck knife something along the lines of the izula would work well i think for your kit, but other than that i think you have all your bases covered

Nice kit. Good on you for assembling a simple "every day" kit. What jumped out at me was that there is no tinder in there. Even a tiny sliver of fatwood or a couple of Tinder-Quik would add a lot of bang for almost no space/weight penalty. I would also second the recommendation to put a small firesteel in there, maybe a BSA HotSpark. (I keep a tiny .125" x 2" rod in my wallet. Hoods Woods and Going Gear have them.)

I like it. I have a very similar setup. I tried taking a whole kit but realized it was too bulky so like you I just put the basics in up to the point it was still comfy.

In my wallet I have:
Bandaids
duct tape
3 immodium

On my keychain:
Photon led
tweezers
compass
Fox 40
LMF firesteel

Of course I have my trusty SAK Farmer with me as well.:D

Regarding the additional knife - Most times I might take a blade out into the woods around my yard for testing, etc. However alot of times I just head off on the trail for various reasons (follow scat/tracks or just to burn energy). Now most of this kit isn't really needed in my situation. Especially items like the compass and LED light, but I had some loose parts laying around. I'd say the only item I really want to consistently have is a spare BIC because I smoke, and not for fire's. But based on my situation these items are plenty handy and could function for me as a "personal survival kit" as well. It weighs ounces and can be thrown in my camping stuff for back-up or given to my wife so she actually carries some basic supplies (she is anti-gear lol)

I have a Swisscard, credit card sized sharpener, credit card sized mirror and a small Douk Douk in my wallet.
Plus a small ferro rod, peanut lighter, Stayglo Vic Classic, aluminum whistle,
2 small spycapsules (one has regular cotton balls, the other vaseline cottonballs) and a Fenix LOD flashlight on my key chain.
Also usually a cheapy Coghlans compass/thermometer/whistle thingy on my person as well.lol.
Thats my minimalist K.I.S.S edc survival kit.
:)
Edit:and also a couple of bandaids in the wallet.

Been thinking does anybody make a nice wallet shaped/sized pouch that looks like a wallet but could act as a survival kit?
I remember an old leather zipper closing wallet i had when i was a kid, something like that (not necessarily leather) and geared towards the kit function would be cool.
Also as it would be wallet sized one could carry it in the traditional location.

Looks like a good kit for bumming around close to home.

I'd add just a bit of duct tape... say a couple feet or so folded or wrapped around a credit card... would be a huge addition with minimal weight.

Duct tape can be a bandage, a moleskin, a patch fpr a tear in your gear or a hole in your ziploc, hold scrapings to start a fire, extra tinder, make a cup... and plenty more.

I had a Maxpedition wallet that had a big pocket in the center. It's this one.http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=82&idcategory=11 You can't really tell from the pic but the pocket is the size of a Motorola razor.
