K&R Dakar compass clear baseplate lensatic?

I dont know about "to good to be true", but I sure want one now! I like that a lot. Thanks for posting it, it is a great set up...the price is good to, so I will get one and give it a work out for sure!
I have never heard of that brand, so I will just have to buy one and try it out.
I have several Silva's and Suuntu's.
Looks good for sure..you are on the right track, me thinks.

K&R makes some good stuff, they got some really nice high end compasses. I was suprised at the price on this one. Most of their compasses are much more expensive.

It still comes with all the inherent problems of every liquid filled compass.

Go Cammenga.

I've never seen the lensatic compass being better the average Silva Ranger compass.

About K&R they are pretty common in Germany but largely supplanted else where by Silva and Suunto. That said good products, nothing to complain about. Maybe they are lowering their prices in order to compete with others which may open door for bargains. Afterall compass making is no rocket science.

K&R uses flexible capsule to avoid bubbles in liquid depending on temperature. That said don't know if it actually works and not sure bubbles are an actual problem.

Always been curious about this one. I've never seen the benefit of the Cammenga style compass and most nato forces use liquid filled compasses and seem happy with them.

All the inherent problems? Only problem I have with my liquid filled compasses are that they might get a bubble if they get exposed to rapid temp changes. Or they might break if you drop em, but so can a Cammenga. In my 32 years of compass use I've only had one get a bubble and never managed to break one, and I had some I really beat on!

My Cammenga is great for accuracy, but its heavy, doesn't have declination adjustment, and its not user friendly when used on a map. IMO I would rather take the baseplate compass in the field if I could only have one or the other. But don't get me wrong, I like my Cammenga too.

I found this same compass on ebay with a different bezel. I don't mean just like it, the same exact compass for $6.00 shipped!

Looks like K&R buys these from China and installs their own bezel assembly.

Not impossible, but it's more likely you just found a cheap Chinese knock-off with a different bezel. Very likely you can find a cheap knock-off with the same bezel, if you keep looking.

Considering the price on the K&R model with so many features (its about 1/3 the price of other K&Rs with less features), its got the exact same scales, dimensions, everything but the bezel. I would bet they buy them less the bezel and install their own bezel assy.

And it has a 1:63,360 map scale on both, which I think is most common in asia, but I know its used in Europe too.
