Well...the time has come.
Have a look at some truly ugly Koster Knives:
Blue/Black G10 = sold to DeanoD = PAID IN FULL
Natural Canvas Micarta = sold to ColdOne = PAID IN FULL
Black/Red G10 = sold to JerkeeJoe = PAID IN FULL
All are oversize 3/16" W2, clay-coated quench and nearly-full flat grind.
The flats are rough-forged, complete with hammer marks and scale.
The grinds have been taken to a rough 240 grit finish and then etched to bring out the hamon line - which on a couple of them is downright bizzare/puzzling/baffling how it got that way. But that's how it is and the blades are definitel HARD.
Additionally, I left the edges fairly thick (0.030" or so) and this being W2...puts these squarely in the BEATER category.
I honestly hope whoever gets these takes them out and beats on them mercilessly to test them.
Kitchen use is fine too...should be able to pound these right through a breastbone, be it chicken or deer.
Think of them as santoku-sized cleavers.
The handles are all synthetics and have been bead-blasted hard to expose the material grain and make probably the grippiest handle possible - short of checking/stippling or 3D milling.
These blades have been kicking around the shop for AGES, as I have been rather uninterested in dealing with the forge marks and so on...plus I don't really use W2 very much.
But rather than toss 'em in the trash....and because I get ocassional requests for "REJECTS"...I figured, What The Heck....why not put these together and just get 'em out the door?
And, since I'm not interested in EVER (repeat: EVER, NEVER) doing these again....I'm going to mark these down in hopes they will FLY out the door TODAY.
