K03 and small blade angle clearance

I am having an issue sharpening smaller thinner narrow blades on a k03 and clearing the clamps. For example, was sharpening a queen steel 85 knife at an angle of rougly 16 degrees. I purchased a set of fillet clamps but was still hitting the clamps with the stone. I can't put any less of the knife in the clamp as it will pop out of the clamp during sharpening. I also tried using just 1 clamp. Am I missing something here? How do you sharpen smaller knives without putting a steep angle on it to clear the clamp?

Unfortunately you are running into the limitations of a clamped fixed angle system. The clamps are extremely handy for consistency, but low angle clearance on small blades are it's weakness. That exact reason is why a company like Hapstone offers both a clamp module as well as the magnetic table.

There may be some type of workaround that I'm not aware of.

Here is your solution :

It's a magnetic blade holder for the K03. There is no limit on blade thickness or clearance with clamps.

Depending on the adapter you use (long blade or scissors) - you'll also be able to sharpen very thin fillet knives or scissors with this. Blade shaped that struggle in clamps also work well with this.
