I picked up a K2 warthog folder around the end of Aug last year, I really liked the knife, liked the blade shape...it was about as sharp as any knife I ever owned out of the box, and took an edge on a sharpmaker very well. The best part was it was like $16+ shipped to the door, seems like a beast...

And at about 7 months of use, which included everything from harvesting wild mushrooms, to your basic box/plastic cutting, and a little bit of whittling...

Then, last night I am without my tin snips and have around 10 or so metal bands (the kind that hold lumber together) to cut...It was rush, rush and had to use my folder, and striking it with a 3/4" threaded rod...

Well, it was stupid, I know. Now I need some sort of replacement.

where did you strike it? metal on metal? that's harsh dude! you murdered your knife !!! :)

fortunately, there's some good replacements. look to the Zombie Mule, or perhaps some of the other discontinued models. or get another K2?

I hit mostly the blade, metal on metal...but also hit way back on the blade/handle and even in the bottom of the handle, chisel style to just poke the tip in, making several punctures, then chopping the band. The puncture/chop method worked well, had i done that first maybe it would still be good to go?

As for a mule, I don't know. I would try one for the right price, but the reviews on youtube are not that great, a few people post about it having a bad lock?
Anyone have a mule...how is it?

That sucks. That's a pretty cool looking knife. I like it.

the zombie mule folder is frkking huge, and heavy. whoa. the sheath is already setup for scout or belt carry, has snaps AND velcro. isn't going anywhere. probably would fit on molle too.

A mule may be in my future, I would like a sheath that can be set horizontally.

The days following the breakage I went back to an old buck knife and small TDI, and placed an order for another non ka-bar edc folder.
Although I have almost always had some kind of folder with me, I have really been searching for that edc fixed blade that really gets carried every day...Had I something fixed I don't think I would have had any problems.

On a side note, as the blade of the K2 held up well (and I like the shape), I think someday it will be resurrected, welding up a handle making it into fixed blade.

The G10 KaBar mule's a re though as nails. I have the same knife you have and have beat the shit out of it. I have had it 5 years now and still going strong !
