K390?

I wonder if Buck would ever produce a knife in K390? Or, if not Buck, then SK or C&C? K390 is not a stainless steel, but it is not easily corroded, either. This has become my favorite non-stainless steel, by far. It holds an edge forever, it seems, and it can be taken down to some seriously thin edge geometry. I love this stuff.

(I realize most, here, are pretty conservative on their steel choices, but this stuff is really superb and it not all that difficult to maintain)

they could i'm sure but i don't think bucks wants in the top end steel game. they just seem to pick a few and stick with 'em compared to most makers.

they did play with some s90v or 420v recently so maybe they are gonna bring in more steel choices?

i like k390, but prefer many other steels to it. good stuff but we have so many choices right now in steels and knives its kinda insane when ya think about it.

I never heard of K390, but that was enough of a recommendation for me. I would buy one. Yes, sprint run.

I would recommend to anyone that they get a knife in this steel that is properly heat treated and try it. Phil Wilson uses a lot of it in his customs and has great things to say about this steel. Spyderco has a couple of knives in it, now, too.

I'm just not into this "Miracle Steel of the Week" thing. I have found that 440C, 425M, D2, BG42 and the good old 420HC can do most anything the others can if you sharpen them well.
My real life results satisfy me and I don't believe in red and black charts from mysterious tests by mysterious people.

Here are some others, so we have a more rounded look at the results. In lots of colors.

Hmmm... well, since one of those charts you posted was created by me, I might as well throw my hat in the ring.

Never tried K390, but I've heard good things about it from people I trust. I'm enough of a steel junky that I'd be interested in trying some.

But, I tend to agree with jbmonkey. When or if I do, it likely won't be from Buck. Buck has tended to use only a few alloys, and use them very well. Spyderco, they are not.
