After the review here in BF and numerous fall yard chores, the finish was pretty abused. I usually just throw on some enamel spraypaint and motor on. Enamel paint on this chunk of 1050 however, doesn't last past sheathing and unsheathing it. Since my 'stepson to be' has been looking for a powder-coater to do some custom bicycle frames he made, I thought a good test run would be my poor Hawk-Spike. I made some inquiries and along comes Rich, owner of Lonesome Road Choppers in Morristown, NJ. Rich is a Michelangelo of powder-coating, and since the STB was looking into shades of red for his bike frames, Rich and I came up with a color I call 1*Red.
When I got the hawk back, a business associate admired it, and then said "but it's not tactical anymore". "Why?" I enquired. "Well... it stands out like a... like a... well, it's certainly not concealable". "No" I replied, "but tactical doesn't always mean concealable". "Oh" was the responce. In military Op's, of course it shouldn't stand out, that's why Eddie does them in Tan. His priority orders are for those over in the sandbox. In LE and civilian applications, concealability may not be an issue, in fact, in some cases the opposite is true. University studies have shown that red uniforms gave martial arts competitors an advantage, all other things being equal. In any even't, I like mine, and if I can just keep it away from padlocks, metal hasps, and concrete blocks, maybe the finish will last for a while.
