My son leaves for the Army this monday. Last nite a group of his good friends from church gave him a going away party. My son already has a Spyderco Military but his friends decided to get him a Ka-Bar D2.

Me and him have looked at this knife many times but I would never get it for him because your not Bob Dozer and I dont trust your D2 knives. You guys make great knives but your not famous for D2 so I am sure you understand.

He already told me today that his Spyderco will always be in his pocket and his new D2 knife on his pack somewhere just for the fact his christian friends gave it to him so he knows he has it for a reason.

I played with this knife this afternoon. I like the knife. I hope you built it well. My son is Army Infantry and will be getting his Paratrooper bage also and then he has option 40 on his contract that says he is guaranteed a shot at Ranger school if his grades are all good.

Everytime my son sends me pictures and if the knife is on him I will post the pictures here.

You guys have a knife in the army now, I hope it does its job.

Thanks to your son for his service. I hope the knife serves him well.

e d,

First of all; Kudos and "Thanks" go out to your son for his service and sacrifice.

Secondly: Don't you worry.
KA-BAR was one of the first production companies to use D2 Tool steel for a blade steel. (Knives of Alaska was probably first; they had cast D2 blades) The D2 1281 F/U knife has been in our line for approx 12 years.
Bob Dozier is one of our designers and friends. He has seen our D2 processes. I won't put words in his mouth; you can call him up yourself and get his opinion.
Our blade has a lower Rockwell Hardness than Bob's (59 vs. 61HRc) but we need and require more toughness in a Military utility knife where Bob places priority on edge holding.

Lastly; If anything goes wrong with the knife, send it or bring it to my attention and you will be taken care of. We try to do this for all of our customers but especially our men and women in the services.

Godspeed to your son.

Best Regards,

from another thread it turns out ED was a previously banned, dare I say, troll.

Great line of BS though. I fell for it.

Don't know if this original post was legitimate or not.
The poster has been banned at least six times at Bladeforums though.
I'll just lock this one down.
