Ka-Bar 1264 Tanto
First Impressions,
Well this arrived on Friday,

I was pretty excited. So I grabbed some friends to see how it measures up,

Ka-Bar does a nice job packing their knives. A sturdy box, knife in a cardboard slip sheath, and the sheath sealed in a plastic bag.

The knife itself, is different than I expected. I also have a 1245. On that knife the spine has a false grind on most of the spine, serrated edge, and Kraton handle.
The spine on the 1264 is the same thickness all the way to the tip. And speaking of the tip. It is considerably more rugged than the tip on my 1245. The blade is a tad shorter than the 1245 and slightly less curved as well. Obviously leather on the handle instead of Kraton, and no serrations.

The sheath is nice. A much simpler and better functioning deal than the one on my 1245. It is a Plastic/Kydex deal with nice retention directly built into the sheath. Snug, but easy in and out. I thought it was a little stiff at first, but once in where it was warm. It works quite nicely. Only one snap around the handle as opposed to two on my 1245. But the 1245 has been around for a long time so the new ones may have an updated sheath as well.

Here it is with my D2 Extreme safe queen, and the BK-5 the most feared camp knife in all the north country. As an added bonus. The Tanto fits very nicely in the Eagle Sheath supplied with the D2 Extreme.

I ran out of light so I didn't get any comparison shots of the 1245 and the 1264 yet. I batoned some light stuff, fondled it a bit and took a little hair off my arm with it. Then cut some old paracord, and shaved some kindling. It came pretty sharp, but there is room for improvement. But it is work ready as received from Ka-Bar.

All in all I like the looks of it,
Since it was getting dark and quite brisk, I opted the light a torch have a beer and continue the review at a later date.

The wind was rocking so the torch took off nicely,
