Ka-Bar #1277 Large Heavy Bowie begs for modification

Has anyone out there yet modded a Ka-Bar large heavy Bowie for martial use? It seems to me to beg for such treatment. While it's great for big-blade-utility work in its current form, I look at that false edge (looks like 4 inches or so of it--which actually leaves the distal part of the blade much lighter than I expected), I have to think that putting a guard and a somewhat-less-massive handle on it would give the purveyors to the martial market a real run for their money. Anyone tried anything like this?

Ok, I am thinking to do the same with my KaBar Tanto. How are you plannning to get the pinned pommel off?
