My father in law passed down an old KA-BAR to me that my wife says he never went anywhere without out it. The handle was old leather replacement and electrical tape. I want to replace the handle and give it to my step son. I think it was actually my grandfather-inlaws to tell you the truth. I'm attaching photo's of the stamp and knife, if anyone could enlighten me on the model and age for sure it would be appreciated. I would also like to ask for suggestions on what to do about the handle, I haven't been able to find an exact replacement so I was thinking stag. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, my step-son will charish this for sure.

I'd clean it up with ballistol very gently and make the end of the handle out of leather, while keeping what's left intact. Also give it a sharpening, an obsessive, extremely gentle one just to make it razor sharp without grinding any material away.

There's also a Ka-Bar forum here, they'll probably be able to help out with the model and age, and I'm sure they'd love to give you some tips for fixing it up.
