I am new here so I hope that this is the right forum to post this question. I was recently given a couple of knives from a Korean War veteran. One is a Ka-bar and the other is a Fairbairn Sykes stiletto. I do not think that either of these are original issue knives. How would I go about finding the date of manufacture for these knives?
Thanks

Original issue Kabars would not have a box. That is a relatively new Kabar. I also suspect your FS is pretty new. If you could take a close-up pictures of the region where the blade meets the guard and also the butt of the handle on the FS it might help. Particularly look for any makers marks on the blade, guard, or handle.

There is a collectors forum here. You might do better posting your question there.

The FS was first issued in WWII.It's refered to as a commando knife not stiletto. Not the best design it is sometimes called a "light duty' combat knife . How's that for an oxymoron ? The reason is that the point was easily broken off.

I was told that the FS was designed and used to dispatch guards quickly. I imagine that the commandos saw a lot of wet work.
