While shoping in my local sports store I found the Ka-Bar/Becker 7" combat utility. I had been searching for a good solid med/large fixedblade for awhile now. I realy wanted to buy a Busse or something in the Busse famley, but due to the high costs and being very hard to get, I just wasent able to get one. I figured I would give the Ka-Bar/Becker a try. After I got home I went to the woods to try it out. I was suprised how good of a choper it was. The blade size was a good size for general dutys. The handle felt good, not alot of grip but wasnt bad. The shape of the handle made up for the lack of grip. Over all the 1095 cro-van proformed like normal 1095 nothing specal there, but a good overall steel. The fit and finish was ok, there wasnt alot to it. The sheath and the small knife it came with :jerkit:. It kinda sucked but did its job. Over all for a $85.00 knife I think its a good solid performer, not a busse, but a good poor mans option. The conclusion I came to was this knife will do what you want it to. It won't blow you away, but will proform most any task you need it to. Also in all reality it will do any task I would put the Busse through, I just wont go home and stare at it. Lol. This is a good knife, not an amazing knife, but a good rock solid beat the hell out of it and pee on it after kinda knife. Lol. I would recomend this knife to anybody wanting a Busse but cant afford it. Or to anybody that just wants a good under $100 performer. All in all I like it, and it may have saved me $400. Well for now.

Update: After going out again and doing some more work with the knife the handle became very loose. I had to go back to my shop and tighten the handle screws. I was doing some very hard choping with it. I would advise putting some thredlocker on the screws, and putting a 5/32 allan wrench in the sheath, just incase.

The Kabar BK7 is a great knife! (I had a Camillus one, too, i love them. :D)

I had to chop a lot of dry, thick wood in this weekend (my pals forgot to bring an axe ) - it served well.

Seems to me you're discovering the fact that an $85 blade will do the job pretty much as well as an $800 blade.

Remember, this country was settled by men with blades not as good as today's $10 Pakistani blades.

Well you can look at it this way. The little knife and sheath that came with your Becker are way, way, way better then the ones that come with your busse ;)

I sort of know where you are coming from on the aethetics though. I just gave a similar review of the Scrapper5. Love the knife, just don't really love the looks.

I trust you wash it well before food prep.:p

But that was a good review and I appreciate you taking the time to write it.

I am really wanting a BK7. IMO, it is the best looking of the new Becker blades as well.

Poor man's knife alright alright...better off paying for Fallkniven A1 or Busse...less agravation in the long run.

My hard chopping/hammering was done in the dark and I lost 2 of the 3 screws, etc. I also clipped 1/4" out of the blade w/my ax. (My fault.)

Well get a Fallknevin next.

Ka-Bar is going to replace it. I am impressed!

If you read some of the old threads on the Becker forum, you'll find that Ethan Becker takes quality control very seriously — and so does Paul from Ka-Bar. I would be exceedingly surprised if you got a defective Becker, and they didn't take care of you. That kind of customer service/warrantee (though it's hardly ever mentioned outside of the Becker forum) is a big part of why I'm a dedicated Becker fan. Ethan Becker is a stand-up guy, who backs his knives all the way.

Give the little knife a chance I convexed mine a threw it in a cabinet in the kitchen I have many good knives but this one is the most handy by far and sharp enough to shave a face

Threadlock on the bolts is a must right off the bat, but wouldn't you do that anyway? That's the first thing I did to my two beckers before I even read about them working lose. Never had an issue with the threadlock on there and I don't baby them. Come to think of it I need to put threadlock on a couple other knives.
