I just received a reply from Tara at ka-bar concerning my inquiry of expected due dates for the blades to be available for our purchase and she said that it would be well into 2008 and as far as the steel it had not been decided on either. Guy's it's now the time for us to start sending emails by the dozen requesting that they don't use their 440 or d2! As you all know stainless is next to worthless in a hard use knife and d2 is...well it's next to stainless! I would much rather just have them in their 1095 cro-van.

Stainless and D2 are useless? I guess I have been wrong all these years. My guess is, it will be 1095 and D2.

Ethan himself mentioned 1095 here on BF, IIRC.

And Ka Bar already uses 1095 extensively in their line.

I reckon I'll put my faith in Ethan that he will direct KaBar in the use of an appropriate steel, either by composition or process. 1095 when properly heated and quenched is hard to beat. But it would not surprise me to see them do some innovation to at least match if not increase the performance of the previous CamBeckers. I would find it hard to believe they would do anything to lessen the mystique even for the "advantage" of lower price point.

Great points, Codger_64. I definitely agree with you!

No Beckers.. from santa? :(

Boy I can't wait to see that folder Ethan talked about.. Gets me all warm and fuzzy inside thinking of a hard use, carbon steel folder that won't break the bank. And it has to be carbon steel. I don't need me no stainless.
