I'm practicing tomahawk and bowie fight,
I'm in the search for a big bowie, but not expensive. I have the bk2 and like very much the 1095 steel, so I was naturally thinking on one of the larger bks, but been handling in the store the big brother and I like it very much. It's wide, large, serrated on top, has a guard...
I know about the crticism on serrations on top, regarding batoning etc, but it's only partially serrated. And as a fighter, those serrations to me are a +1
Another option is esse 6 or junglas, and of course cs bowies, but those are much more expensive, and I don't know if they would give me more in exchange for the higher price than a big brother.

So, is there any known defect, issue, crtic, on the big brother ka bar that I should evaluate before purchase? It's not intended to be heavily used, it's for solo training and maybe some light use.
I've read about the "rat tail tang", some saying is weak for such a big knife, but couldn't find examples of such tang failing or broking.
I have found examples of cs bowie models crticized for such thing, and broken at the handle. Also, that was criticized in turn saying that the knife only broke because it was abused, not for a defet in the construction of the knife.

Sooooo
any problems or issues with ka bar big brother?

Thanks for your expert help.

I have all the knives you have mentioned plus some. If a big bowie is what you are after just order up a BK7 and by all means DO spend the extra 40 bucks on the factory micarta scales for it. The Esee is stupid nice but is also stupid expensive as is the Junglas. The slab sided handles on the Esees are a huge downer for me and make them harder to grip the BK7 has nice rounded handles and is impressively well made for what I consider to be less money than it is actually worth. The Cold Steel stuff is good but waaay overpriced. Only downer on the BK7 is the just "okay" sheath other than that for what it is it smokes most of what you mentioned. Oh and the BK is a full tang not a standard thin rat tail like on the Kabar...

ESEE all the way. You can't go wrong w/ either of them. I love my 6 & probably use it more than anything else I own (larger blade)

One of the world's most renowned knife fighters swears by a Delica 4 Wave. I would think, given the physics of it all, that weight should be a huge consideration in your selection of blades. Kind of a Solomon's Choice, yanno? Shall I choose the Viking broadsword for its sheer brutal, weighty impact, or the Japanese katana for its' lightweight scalpel brilliance?

Quillan, there are no knife fighters. It's a fantasy.
That being said,I get and appreciate your point.
Contradictory replies so far, and nobody is saying go for the big brother! wich was the one I liked the most.
I'm getting the impression that is way less popular than esee and becker, and I think I know why: it's the least utilitarian in design.
