Ka-Bar BK14 vs. Izula or maybe Schrade Extreme Survival Neck Knife

So, I'm considering putting a ~3inch blade neck knife on my want list. I've narrowed it down to the three knives in the thread title based on blade shape, length, and steel. How does the BK14 compare to the Izula? They're both the same steel, from companies with reputable HT and they have similar handle shapes and blade shapes, the BK14 being about a half an inch longer than the Izula. Is there a reason to pick one over the other? Also, will Izula micarta scales fit the BK14 since they have such similar handle shapes? I'm leaning towards the BK14 over the Izula because it's longer blade and lower price.

Should I even be considering the Schrade? It's much less expensive than the BK14 or Izula, it has a blade length in between the two others and is the same 1095 steel. Is Schrade's HT trustworthy? I might be willing to accept the crappier handle ergonomics because of how inexpensive the knife is.

Thanks for any input.

To make the decision even harder, I suggest you check out two neck knives that fit those same specs that you haven't mentioned yet: Blackjack's 155 Neck Knife (in 154 CM) and Bark River Knife and Tool's Bravo Necker, which is now available in the very enticing CPM 3V. Both come with Kydex sheaths (to the Izula's injection molded plastic), and the Blackjack is pretty close to the same price as the Izula. I've been on the market for a neck knife with the same specs and the decision only keeps getting harder.

I like the Becker's longer blade and the shape of that blade better than the ESEE but you can't go wrong with either. Not sure about the Schrade.

If you have bigger hands, the BK 14 works much better for me comfort wise. Smaller hands, go with the Izula. I would trust ESEE and Becker over Schrade any day, but have never handled the one in question before, so if you really like the ergos or anything like that, it might be a consideration.

BK-14 if you want a longer blade, that's the reason I sold off my izula the instant I received the BK-14.

And to answer your question about the scales....Yes they will, but you will have to shave just a hair off the alignment spacers inside the scales (quick and easy with a marker and scissors)

Feels great in the hand

Yeah, just to reiterate what has already been said.

Personally, I LOVE the BK14 for neck or pocket carry...

The larger blade size sold me over the Izula,...although no doubt you can't go wrong with either.

especially once you upgrade it with the micarta scales and a kydex sheath;...you have a real winner.

I wouldn't even bother with the schrade with so many proven choices.

Never tried the Izula but I have on two BK14's and those really are great knives, also you might want to check out the Izula two with the extra 1/2in of handle room, that really does help with more detailed work

You can't go wrong with Becker or ESEE. Now that Schrade isn't US made I wouldn't buy from them.

Thanks for nothing Misanthropia, now I have more knives I need to spend hours staring at!:D Seriously, thanks for the suggestions, but I think those are a little more than I'm willing to pay. They look like great knives though.

I was already leaning towards the BK14 because of the blade length and good price, and the favorable comments and DaPro's pictures pushed that one into the lead. Well, onto to the list it goes... to bad for it (and me) the list is long and expensive... I'm not sure when it will get to the top. Thanks for the help guys.

To thoroughly confuse you..(and I own and LOVE my Izula II), how about the Scrapyard Scrapivore...nice little piece, too.

Those look pretty nice. I like the coating options. How does SR-101 compare to 1095? Do you know if you can get scales for the Scrapivore?
