Ka Bar BK2 or BK7???

They're both capable blades. The BK2 feel like a sharpened pry bar. Just a thick hunk of metal. The BK7 feels like an extremely solid knife. Id choose the 7everyday of the week. If the sheath is the deciding factor you can always look into a custom sheath.

BK2

I have the BK7 and I chose it over the BK2 mostly because of the looks. They are both great blades, but I feel the BK7 does have better balance in my hand.

Unless you really want a BK7, if you have to add a kydex sheath you might as well look into the ESSE-6, which has the better holster and micarta scales. BTW I have a BK2 and like the sheath.

I love my BK2, but I don't have a BK7. The 7 just seems to utility knife for me. What do I mean? Well, your average kitchen knife set has a utility knife, which isn't good for carving, cutting bread, chopping vegetables, or paring. It's the in-between junk knife. I never found much use for one. My wife, on the other hand, LOVES the utility knife. Of course, she has issues using the full chefs knife and has smaller hands, so I guess if you are overly feminine or have girly hands, you'd prefer the BK7 over the BK2.

All kidding aside (which part was kidding though?), after market kydex is great and not super expensive and you could probably get either Becker + custom kydex for less money than a comparable ESEE.

Though I had a BK 7 twice, I never really liked it that much. Just too much of a knife for daily uses.
It looked cool though

BK2 for me. My son loves his BK7 and it really is a great knife, but the BK2 is better at chopping, batoning and (IMO) fine tasks. Also, tho the BK2 is heavier, for me, it carries more easily because of the overall length. Either would be a great pickup but I like the BK2.

Great pic ;-)

Can't lose either way, although the correct answer is BOTH. If I had to pick, I would go with the BK7 for looks and choppitude and its a bit slicier. BK2 is indestructible and really great for splitting. Heck you just can't lose either way.

I have both and I like them both. Some will argue that the 7 isn't really a master of anything but I find it a nice balance between my BK-2 and my BK-9.

I'm not much for the sharpened prybar BK-2 (Yes, I own one). I would look at the BK-10 over it. Have the BK-7 also. I just have not found a niche for it yet unlike the BK-16 just fits perfectly into my woods knives.

I got a BK2 a few months ago, although I've never actually used it. I got it to be the knife that goes into my bug-out bag as an all-around survival knife, after having read many positive comments about that knife here (before joining) and elsewhere.

I like the knife itself but in my opinion, the sheath is the weakest part. Mine is so tight that I have to hold the sheath firmly in one hand while pulling the knife with all the might of my other hand/arm. There are minor differences in any manufactured item, even mass-produced items, that's why you get some cars that last a few hundred thousand miles while another example of the same make/model, maybe even the next one off the production line, is a lemon. There's probably someone else out there complaining the sheath for his BK2 is too loose. I don't know, maybe I have to just remove/insert it a thousand times to break it in? Oh, and the kydex part is attached to a nylon strap which forms the belt loop, and when you unsnap the retaining loop, the weight of the knife/kydex cause them to flop over. I took photos to illustrate, but apparently I can't attach them.

Kabar actually makes an alternative sheath for the BK2, it's polyester and costs $25; I don't know if it has the same issue or not. And has been mentioned by others, there's a huge range of aftermarket sheaths out there for the BK2 (and I assume other Beckers as well).
