Newbie to Bladeforum.

After playing around with my new BK2, I am still finding it hard to get the right pressure on the thumb push to pull the knife out, as others have highlighted. Yes the retention is good, but I am concerned that there may be too much pressure on the first eyelets when at its maximum open width when inserting the knife.

I am just concerened this may be a design fault and it will be only a matter of time before the first eyelet pops, as this is surely under a good deal of strain when inserting and removing the knife.

Photos attached inserting the knife at its maximum open, stretched width, just before the knife snaps into the sheath and with no knife. I reckon it is opening up approximately 6mm or the thickness of the blade.

Is this normal ?

The pressure at max width opening is only temporary. As long as there is enough roll on each side of the eyelet, it should be good to go, however, it's probably not a good idea to leave sustained pressure on max opening width. Without examining it personally, it appears to be designed to flex like this. Only time will tell.

Translation: Sheath looks like it was made to expand and contract over the handle when the knife goes in and out. Provided there is enough material on each side of the holding eyelet, it should be strong enough. Better?

The BK2 sheath is really hard to get in and out of...one of the principle complaints. It will get a bit easier with use, and it will be a real bear to get out when it's cold (like it is here in the midwest right now). I don't think the kydex sheath will ever actually break, though from normal use.

Ka-Bar released a polyester sheath for it a little while ago and now sell it with the blade under the BK22 model number. You can buy it individually at a few places online for just over $20. The 6" Spec Ops Master sheath also supposedly fits it very well. And of course there are many custom sheath makers on these forums who have made a seemingly endless variety of sheaths for it from various materials.. Just do some searches, there is no shortage of info here about the BK2. I am currently in the same boat as you, I have the kydex sheath which I am keeping mounted semi-permanently in my truck and I am looking around for a sheath to carry with me.

It looks fine to me. I even shot a couple photos of my BK2 sheath for yah to ease your mind. I have a couple years on this GRN sheath and it is fine. No popped eyelets or any other failures at all. Purty tough stuff. FYI the first two photos are the knife jammed in to make the sheath stretch to the max.
