I may get this knife, but wanted to grind the rear bottom of handle to eliminate the handle "hook", but I'm afraid I will grind into the hole for the lanyard; I will leave the pommel intact. I also want to remove the spine ramp/notches to make the spine flat. Thoughts?

Removing the ramp doesn't look like it would be a big deal at all, the logo should even remain intact. Just go slow and keep it cool while you're grinding. Before you started grinding on the grip, though, I'd just pop the scales off and see where the metal actually is and isn't. Even if you can't remove it totally, you can still probably reduce it's size quite a bit.

Welcome to Bladeforums, by the way!

Come over to the Becker sub forum located in the manufactures section and ask the same question. You will see modded 7s beyond your wildest dreams......

You should be good with removing that part of the handle, as long as you don't get to close to the thong hole. Although I would advise you to hold it and use it before you go altering it. Ethan Becker spent alot of time developing that handle and I can't say I've ever heard anyone complain about that part of the handle. However, one of the nice things about Beckers is that the price is not prohibitive to modifications.

thanks for the welcome, and for all the comments...I've been a knife collector for years, mostly Randalls, but I ran across this knife and read all the reviews on you tube...seems like a great knife for the money. I just never liked a knife with a rear handle "dip". I also like a deep choil...but I"m afraid to reduce effective blade length just to be able to choke up on knife...thanks again for the comments...I'll post it on the sub forum, and if I make the mods I will post pics...I've never seen a mod on the handle like I've suggested.
