Hi Everyone,
I'm Hoping to get a little bit of help in regards to a new knife purchase. I'm in the process of joining the Canadian Armed Forces, and I'm looking to get a good solid knife to take with me into the field (Not BMQ).
I have it down it to three knives, and really the deciding factor for me at this point is the sheath. I want a functional Kydek or Glass filled nylon sheath that allows the knife to click in. I want it this way so I can mount it a variety of different ways instead of it always hanging off my belt.
So my choices as it stands is the standard Ka-Bar with the glass filled nylon, Or the Bull Dozier (My other choices is he Gerber LMF II, but I know this isn't the thread for it).
I have read that the Bull Dozier sheathes quite tightly and can be hard to get out; is this true? Can this be said about the other sheath?
What have been the community's experience with these two knives?
Any information and opinions would be appreciated. Also, If you think these knives are no good, please tell me about an alternative.

Thanks.

the Dozier is just fine it is just to heavy to compete with the standard FU knife. I have the Dozier and 6 different FU knives and then some so yes I have compared both. The Gerber LMF II sucks I have one. The blade is mostly bad serrations and the knife overall seems more like a toy than anything else. If you go Gerber get the newer tanto tipped CBF knife that thing is nasty. As for Ka Bars yes out of those 3 knives the USMC FU, Bulldozier and Gerber LMF II taking a PLAIN STRAIGHT EDGE(the Ka Bar serrations are useless IMO) full sized 1211 in your choice of leather handle(my preference)or Kraton G into the armed forces with you is a very wise choice. The Bulldozier must weigh 20 ounces. It has an amazing handle grip. The black coating on the blade is cheap though. I use Tuff Cloth on all my knives and it works wonders except for the Bulldozier as the mineral oil in the rag has slowly started to eat off the cheap asian black coating.

Yes, the USMC FU Ka Bar is still such a good knife it is worth it to buy a pre made Kydex sheath online. There are plenty of fabricators out there of pre made kydex for it. Challenge: try to find a Ka Bar FU made before 2005 as it should have the proper sharpened upper swedge! Good luck!

You're looking for the Ka-Bar 1213, which is the same design carried by the USMC for many years, except with a synthetic grip and nylon sheath. I have one, and the sheath holds the knife in very well. It's a great general utility knife.
