I was wondering what the actuall differances are between the two most popular brands?(the fighting knives). The only real differance i can tell is that the ka-bar is a little bit heavyer and the leather rings on the handle seem to be polished or smoother than the camillus.Other than thati cnt really tell any diferance.

DO NOT BUY A CAMILLUS FIGHTING KNIFE THE QUALITY IS HORRID.

I own 8 kabar fixed blades
Two full size leather handles (serrated and plain)
Two next generation sandvik (serrated)
Two Impact Combat knifes (D2)
One updated full size (kraton, plain)
One D2 Next Generation Combat knife

Having said that, I have not had one bad one yet and they all came razor sharp. I've let them soak over night after cleaning game etc. They hold and edge and are built with quality. Just look at the leather handle on a Kabar vs a camillus. In addition to that the butt cap on a Kabar is twice as thick as that on a Camillus. Kabar does a much better job of producing this knife.

Now to Camillus

Ordered two combat knives and one pilot survival knife
- each combat knife came unsharpened. When I say this I don't mean it was dull I mean it had the black phosphate coating on the edge and was NOT SHARPENED. The pilots knife was dull and the handle was chipped. I was so P****** off I trashed one, gave the pilots knife away and kept unsharpened knife as a reminder to never buy another camillus combat knife again.

DO NOT BUY CAMILLUS COMBAT KNIFES THEY HAVE ZERO QUALITY.

This is suprising, as Camillus has very good reputation. Maybe you got a couple of lemons?

One Bladeforums member once did a comparison test between the Kabar and Camillus Marine Combat, and claimed the Camillus was the better edge-holder.

Still, the Kabars are very good quality, so you won't go wrong buying one.

I own 6 ka-bar fixed blades and I love them all.
I sharpened a camillus pilot knife for a friend of mine a few weeks ago and I was astonished to find that the knife had 2 different grinds! One side was a hollowish grind and the other side was sort of convex. The knife was new but he didn't like the edge.No wonder.
I've held a camillus and a ka-bar side by side at an army surplus/antique store a few weeks ago.The camillus felt cheap and unfinished.I bought a 30+year old ka-bar over a new camillus.
My .02$....stick with ka-bar.You won't be disapointed.

From the Ka-Bars, Camillus and Ontario USMC fighting knives I have seen, I find that Ka-Bar has the nicest fit and finish, Ontario has short grinds and the knives look kinda junky, and the Camillus ones have good grinds and offer the ebst value for the money. You pay more for the Ka-Bar.

I'd get a Camillus one if I were shopping around for one.

Though the Ka-Bars are very nice too! I have a Ka-Bar short that I really like. The first knife my wife (then girlfriend) gave me.
