ka bar coating question

I was cleaning a gen 2 stainless ka bar and it looks like the coating is coming off but I looked it up and it is supposed to be bead blasted finish does any one know if they put any thing on the blades

I don't have that particular version, but nutnfancy has about 30 minutes worth of discussion on all the generations of the Kabar. There's likely a combined 10 minutes on finishes alone

Nothing that I've heard about.

Was this a brand new blade?

could it be blade discoloration? because on cold steel aus8, rusts pretty fast on their bead blast.

Original 1221 F/U knives were bead blasted and passivated. Around 2002, due to many complaints of corrosion on the blade, we started coating the metal parts with a gray epoxy powder coat. You probably have a later model.
