I have that knife in 440 and some other knives in D2.
D2 is known to be on the brittle side it can chip but Kabar itself has a good rep on heat treating, I was going to buy that knife but went with the one in 440 cause it was cheaper. If I were you I would make my decision based on the steel and what the cycle of the knife is. If you are good at sharpening and will carry sharpening gear in the cycle the 440 would work better in my opinion.
