Just thought I'd post up some thoughts about my Ka-Bar Desert Mule folder.
It's a big folder with a 3 13/16" AUS-8 blade. Closed, it is 5 1/4".

The slight hollow grind on the blade makes it a mean slicer, as evidenced in these controlled cuts into a limb.

It easily stands up to light batoning, which I used to make the notches in this Figure 4 trap.

It's a big knife. Here, it's shown with a Spyderco Paramilitary, Spyderco Calypso III, Victorinox Farmer, and Case Peanut.

In hand though, the Zytel handle and rubber inserts are very comfortable.

Since it's so big, Ka-Bar sells a sheath for this knife. But it also has the low-carry pocket clip oriented such that it disappears nicely into your pocket.

In short, it's a beast. Mine has solid lockup, cuts like a champ, and makes a great camping companion.

Thanks for the info, I haven't heard too much about this knife. I handled the mule at Smokey Mountain knife works and it was real heavy. I didn't realize it dwarfed the Para. This would probably be a great deployment work knife for military personell. I love how low it rides in the pocket. I wonder if it could give the CS Recon-1 a run for it's money?

It was created with our lads and lasses in uniform in mind. Solid, durable folder is a precious tool for the service personnel. Not everyone needs a big ol' combat knife, but everyone needs a good blade.

This is a good blade.

Great shots and a nice looking knife. Seems like a good candidate for a destruction test; it'd be really good to know just how much punishment it can take, considering it's intended userbase. Prior to this thread I hadn't had much interest in this; now I want one.

It took a while ;), but I'm glad that you spot lighted\reviewed the mule. I've always liked this one. Unfortunately mine got left out in the rain.

Nice pics I always enjoy seeing knives be put to the test. I feel the mule is an excellent step up from the Dozier folding hunters(which are great knives in their own right).

The Mule looks like it packs quite a "kick". Now, I want one as well.

Thanks for the review.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I've been looking for something like it and it just might fill the bill. Being a lefty I love the fact that the clip is ambi.
