looking for a new slimline lockback and these two have turned my head - they seem very similar is size, shape and steel - but which one should I chase down?

That's just a matter of taste and what kind of handle material you like Corso. Both knives are identical right down to blade steel, only difference is the shield and tang stamp. Kabar's currently distribution a copper bolstered version as well, with wormgroove jigged handles. Should be out very shortly, retail should be somewhat higher than the regular version.

The KA-Bar knife is made by Canal Street on contract. I don't think that Canal Street markets the knife with Ram's Horn handles that Ka-Bar has.

I suspected as much - do they have identical fit and finish?

Probably going to go for wood scales - not a big fan of stag or bone for users

I have the Ka-Bar stockman, it's a terrific knife  with same fit and finish as my Canal Street knives.

I had the Ka-Bar Stockman,Regular Trapper and the Lockback, all in Ram's Horn handles. I was somewhat disappointed in F&F. Seemed to have problems with the getting the Inlay Shield inlayed just right, and had some shrinkage of the Horn away from the Bolsters on one knife. All brand new in the box.

either is a great choice as the others have alluded. Can you post some pics when you get it? Good luck either way
