Hey guys, I just picked up a KA-BAR Dog's Head. It looks just like the USMC version but they changed the pommel to add a lanyard hole and added the Dog's Head instead of the USMC logo. I will post pics later but check them out they're cool.

I received mine today as well, awesome knife!

The pommel is different, and the guard is shorter on top, along with the stamp change.

I'll post pics tonight
 
The pommel and guard are the same as what was on the NextGen (1221) and is on the D2 Fighter (1281).
 
I received my Dog's Head Utility Knife on Friday. I like the 'improvements' over the USMC knife.

This must certainly change the feel of the knife.
Like does that bulbous pommel shift the weight into the hand?
Where does it's centre of balance lie?
Just how does it compare physically with the next gen model
I wonder...
 
Interesting pommel on that knife. It's kinda growing on me. Love the classic blade shape of course and the simple leather sheath. Looks great for an outdoorsy utility knife, without the military markings.

Might have to add it to (my ever growing) list... :)
 
Dang it JD, you've made me want one of these knives even more now! Now there's a leather handled, 1095cv version of the D2 1281 which is what I've wanted all along. And sweet Knights of Columbus, that sheath looks unreal! It looks OEM. Gimme gimme gimme!
 
Im trying to get one from Tomars with their custom laser engraving but they dont list the dogs head as an option yet for some reason. Sent them an email and filed a formal submission on Tomars site for an engraved Dogs Head and am keeping my fingers crossed. Having to scope out another source to have it laser engraved would really blow...damn its a nice darn knife though! If it had a factory sharpened swedge Id order 3 of them lol
