Ka-Bar Dozier folder handle modification?

I've been thinking about modifying my Ka-Bar Dozier folder's handle. I think this is a knife many of you are familiar with. Here's the thing. This is the only knife I have cut myself multiple times with and it keeps happening. I do not use the knife to stab, yet I slip quite often. The ergonomics of the handle do not seem to work well for me, which is really weird, because it feels good in the hand when just holding it. The knife has neither a finger choil, nor does the handle have a hilt or anything alike. Neither do Opinels and I have never slipped on one. And I am using and abusing them every day. So, I had an idea. I do not want to go with a finger choil in the blade, but I was thinking of removing a little part of the handle to give my index finger a place to rest against. I found this photo on the internet and was thinking about removing some material from the handle where this gentleman is holding the knife. Right underneath the blade. The material is zytel, by the way.

So it might end up looking more like an Ontario RAT. Any experience with this? Can I, or should I do it? Maybe you have some tips. It's such a great value knife, so light and handy and I'd love to EDC it. But at this point, it does not feel very secure to me.

Go ahead with it, but go slow and careful, try not to heat the handle up too much because it might melt if it's a plastic (not much experience with zytel) (I'm not sure if that's true, but just as a precaution never heat materials up too much)
It's a backlock, so you should be fine reshaping that side of the handle as much as you want
