Ka-bar Dozier folding hunter 4063 vs. Cold Steel Voyager & Sog Autoclip

I just got mine. It's OK. The blade is little thinner than a Cold Steel Voyager but thicker than a SOG Autoclip and the handles are much thinner than the CS but the same as the SOG. The handles flex much more easily than the CS but the same as the SOG when squeezed. When bent laterally they flex more than both.

I really like the thumbridge and the AUS-8 steel and the tip-up carry of this knife, definately! It's a much better thumb stud than the Cold Steel but nothing beats a good opening hole like the SOG has. Though, the clip is pretty skimpy and weak.

It's a pretty thin knife and when I bend it I can see that it flexes easily and wouldn't stand much lateral pressure. I like the blade shape better than the Sog Autoclip or Cold Steel Voyager being designed by Bob Dozier and I like the Ka-Bar stud better than the CS but not as much as the SOG opening hole. It's the smoothest opener I've experienced with Zytel handles on a new knife that hasn't broken in and it has an adjustable pivot which is nice but so does the SOG Autoclip.

It's a nicely designed knife with a great blade steel but isn't very strong even for a Zytel knife. The handle is slightly more comfortable than either a SOG or Cold Steel but not by much.

It IS totally ambidexterious. You can swap the stud and the clip.

I still prefer the SOG Autoclip with adjustable clip and opening hole. Even though the Ka-bar is a little cheaper, I've had excellent experiences with the Autoclip and it'll take much more than Bob Dozier's name and a little better designed blade shape to change my mind.

This knife still takes a backseat to the Cold Steels and especially the SOG Autoclip in my opinion.

I won't comment on Sog knives other to say I don't like them, ditto for Cold Steel.

I have a Bob Dozier D2 folding hunter. It is absolutely the best I knife I ever owned. So when Ka-bar brought out its version I got one. The low price helped in that decision. Here is my take. Its an exceptional value for the money. Overall, great ergonomics. Lows, thumbstud. Compared with Dozier's own, this one is terrible. I got Bob to send me a thumb stud. I installed it and that solved the problem. My thumb would just slip off the stock one. Bob's replacement transformed the knife. I would have liked a thinner blade on this one but I like thinner blades in general. The reversable pocket clip is a good design but I like deeper carry than it has. Still, these are nit picks. This is a knife woulld use and abuse (due to the low price of replacement).

Flexability is about equivelent to Delica or other Zytel hanlded knives of similar size So not a problem, IMO.
