I bought my left-handed Boy Scout son a Ka-Bar/Dozier Folding Spear, and want to know if the thumbstud can be unscrewed and flipped to the other side of the blade. If so, what kind of screw head is used on that? It doesn't look like a Torx head.

Thanks,

Ken K.

Well, most of the things I've seen have indicated that you can change the thumbstud over. I'm not sure about the kind of screw it is, though. Could be some loc tite on it though.

I just happen to have my Dozier in front of me and a Husky Torx driver and it looks to be a T-6 sized torx head.

Yes, I'm a southpaw and have done it to all my Doziers, JPD1998 is correct, all you need is a T-6 torx driver.

PS, none of mine had Loc-Tite on them, just came right off easy.

my thumbstud worked loose just playing with it -- may have to put some loctite on it

Know that those thumbstuds are not heat treated in any way. So they are on the soft side so to speak. If you find it difficult to turn that screw, just try heating it up a bit with a hairdryer or touching it with soldering rod. This will loosen up, if any adhesive that was applied. Another way is to hold the "stud" end with a small pliers (cover the stud with a piece of leather or such) and unscrew the torx end. This should do the trick.
