ka bar fighter 1271

I have owned 1 for just over 2 years now. I love this knife. I did some modifications to it to make it more practical for my use, and if I can ever figure out how to post pictures then i will. Im a frikken caveman when it comes to technology. I've done some very heavy chopping with it, as well as carving and food prep. Aside from the sheath i would fully recommend this knife.

i'm a little late to the party... i've owned one for about a year and a half, and it'll do work. i use it in a machete capacity a lot, i chop/baton with it, i cut, whittle, i guess i use it as a jack of all trades really.
it is more robust than other ka-bars in the line (and the same as the tanto 1245) in that it has a genuine full tang, not just full length. the measurements of the tangs on black fighter 1271 and tanto 1245 are ".725 compared to ".531 for the rest of the line. their 1095 cro van seems to resist rust exceptionally well as i've chipped away a lot of the coating and it has never developed any rust spots. i need to make an in depth review of it here, because it seems like nobody knows it has a larger tang than the others, and not many people seem to have it. anyway, pictures as requested...

I was going to make a thread about these, until i saw this one, will just copy it over here

It seems to have a 1 inch longer blade, partially serrated(i could take that or leave it), different, wider blade shape(purty) and a thicker tang as mentioned above but other than that I really havent been able to find much info or opinions on these. Anyone have any personal experience with them, good or bad?

I would expect these to be a bit tougher than your standard usmc kabar, that and the aesthetic is making me very interested.

It doesnt seem to have much in the way of sheathe options, just the leather/cordura sheathe. Many people seem to like it, but I do like the idea of the kydex/polymer/etc hard sheathes with positive retention that kabar offers for the standard USMC knives. does anyone make good sheathes for these?

Also, anyone with both, a good side by side comparison pic with the standard USMC knife would be awesome, I will be ordering this unseen

Doesn't seems so..... The models in site are with serrated edges. the serrations are appropriate, Not too much in length not too short for looks.

I've had one for over a year. It's like new. I have Swamp Rats and TOPS but if my Kabar is stolen it's easy to replace for only $70 online. Fearsome and fast self-defense blade. Light on a belt. Great for road trips when things tend to disappear. Made in the USA. HAVE YOU BOUGHT YOURS YET? Raven

PS: I too hate the loose sheath the Kabar Fighter comes with (leather and nylon combo). I've been getting my Kydex sheaths from Buy Brown Ind . Com and Grizzly Knife Sheaths. Both excellent products, service and quality. Don't hate your knife because of the sheath. Carry your Kabar in quality Kydex.

Ive got the mentioned 1245 tanto. It is a freaking beast. The tang is indeed both thicker and wider than my USMC knives. I cut down two small trees with it when I first got it. It was shockingly easy. I dont have the fighter but seeing as it has that nice big wide blade and plenty of tang for strength I am thinking it would do twice the work of my tanto. Screwed up my 1245 when I tried to learn how to sharpen on it. Gonna send it off for a regrind...
