Many eons ago when I was in Boy Scouts (okay, so it was the late 1970s and early 80s, but it feels like eons to my back and knees) I bought a Ka-Bar knife at Jax Surplus in Ft. Collins, CO that had the blade style like a standard USMC knife with the leather handle, but this one was different. It had what I now believe was a micarta handle, though it could have been some kind of phenolic resin or similar substance. I know it was man made, dark in color, smooth and hard to the touch. It had a butt cap pressed on to the end which fell off occasionally but was finally (at least to me) secured with some loc-tite and a big rubber mallet. I loved that knife. When it was stolen from my Ford truck one night I considered going on a manhunt but ended up just filing a police report and having a little self pity.
Has anyone else ever seen a similar knife? I've looked, looked, and looked more, but I've never seen another like it. I would dearly love to find one of these knives, if only to hold one again and know that I'm not losing my mind.
