Hi folks,
I think I may have commented on a thread or two in your forum in the past....thought it was high time I posted something of note, albeit probably a bit old hat
Anyway, thought I'd share my Ka-Bar weekend with you.
Went out for a wee wander with my bro, currently known as Earl-chop.
He wanted to test out his new Olympus E-LP1, however it was a bit wet (okay, I live in the North of England....it was bouncing it down!).
Took a few random snaps as I was looking out for some recently downed pine trees or ones which were not all rotting and punky, in a bid to score some fat/grease wood. No dice.
Spied a holy tree though:
In the absence of fat wood I went to a spot where there are a few Birch and spied this particular specimen, ably pointed out by Earl-chop:
I had in fact told hm to poke it as I had noticed something curious about it:
(Oh look, his new camera!)
Yup, it was hollow pretty much down to where Earl-chop is poking.
Not sure if it was an old wasps nest or something? I did see some chrysalis/grubs in the punky inner though.
Anyway, I decided to harvest a bit, why not?
I picked up some more bits on the way back and no sooner had I got back home, was I asked to light the stove.
I batoned my way through some 2" diameter cherry and continued to section it down.
The 4062 was more than up to the task.
Again the the 4062 excelled at prepping a few choice pieces I set aside to make fuzzy:
*
Really cannot impress how easy these just rolled off the blade.
It takes such a good edge!
All that was left was scrape up some Birch bark...
And spark it up with my Ferro Rod...
I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but I'm strongly recommending this knife.
A while back I got rid of my 4062 in favour of a Spydie Persistence. Well, using this knife again, I wonder if I was quite of sound mind?!
Its not left my side since Thursday last and has not only helped me heat my house, its prepped several meals....including my all time fave, Jambalaya!
Thanks Ka-Bar for landing the Dozier design and making such a great 'budget' wee folder....and to you folks for indulging my ramblings.
Stay warm and well.

*I liked this shot so I tweaked it and made an arty version....
