hi,
I'm looking for a good general purpose brush-clearing knife. Not too thick or heavy (not planning on taking down trees with a knife :)), but should be able to handle a wide range of veg from thick grass/scrub to small tree branches. Short and light enough to carry easily, long enough for some reach and efficiency in clearing old field paths.
I have machetes (thin blades) and chopper knives (thick heavy blades).
I figured I could just use one of my condor machetes and take my chances with the heavier veg, but maybe there is a gap in my lineup (umm, excuse to buy another knife ).

So, if you have one (Ka-bar grass), what do you think of it?

Thanks.

I have one, and so does the Mighty Biscuit (Guyon).

I like it, and it feels less of a machete, and more of a big ass knife. The OAL length is not too long (Collins 26"), but it has some heft that says, if you want to chop some wood, I can do it.

The handle is Toooj' handle all the way. No slip, great grip, and a "safety" hook to keep your mitts on the grip. You can swing it without fear of it slipping out. Which is a good thing.

I been using mine on just live green veggies, and it sends small branches and tall grass flying.

If you have a gap in your long blade lineup, I say go for it. And it won't wreck the bank account either.

I need to get some pics up soon.

Thanks, that is good info. Do you happen to know the weight ? I definitely like the length (covers a lot of ground per swipe).

1lb 3.5oz according to my scales.

Its a handful of mighty 1085 goodness, for sure.

for some reason, i don't have one. it's on my list of things to acquire.

Thanks.
Pretty reasonable weight for such a big blade.
Gonna pull the trigger on this, I'm thinking. Still plenty of time for trail work before snowfall :)

Right on. Let us know how you like it. I might have to some brush clearing soon myself. :D

The grass machete looks like a monster to me I'd love to get behind one and lay waste to some timber with it.

Good decision, its a great tool. Wonderful handle, think and powerful, that one is a keeper for sure. Chops damn well too!

Man, if you don't have a Grass Machete, run, don't walk, to your nearest dealer and grab some Tooj goodness.
I've been using the heck out of this one and will post up a review pretty soon.

Really less of a wood processing tool and more of a wet media cutter, right?

This one strikes a pretty good happy medium in between IMO.
It's plenty thick to chop and baton, but you can also grab it for clearing brush.
For brush clearing, I'd rather have a thinner, longer machete like the ESEE Lite or a Tramontina, but the Grass Machete will certainly do the job.
I've been using mine to process wood. Everything from chopping small branches up to splitting small logs.
