ka-Bar heat treat

Of the kabars and beckers I have sharpened I would say its one of the best heat treatments of 1095 I've seen next to custom knives in 1095. As for the HRC, none I've worked on felt anywhere close to that soft.

The USMC is pretty true to 56 or 57. Of course there are some outliers, but this is the general range. The reason that it is somewhat softer is because of the purpose it serves: fighting/utility. The blade has give and will bend before it breaks. A soldier with a broken blade as opposed to a soldier with a slightly bent blade is night and day. The blade can also be bent straight if it becomes bent. Though it is called "Fighting/Utility", the utility side is the key component. The knife sees it most use opening MRE's, boxes, cutting wire and cloth, etc.
