Ka-bar Heavy Bowie Fat Grip Modification (question)

Hi y'all. I spend a lot of time on this site but this is my first post, and it's a question:

I just purchased a Ka-bar Heavy Bowie and I love everything about it except the grip, which is just uncomfortably fat, and for that reason I'm considering returning it. But before I do I want to ask some of you about the feasibility of slimmimg its kraton grip, by sanding or some other means. Do any of you know if that could be done without ruining the grip? I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

You will prob. get a lot of good advise here. Also might try the Becker Forum (made by Kabar) lots of good handle mod info. there.

Sanding will work. But it gets messy, and the handle can be uglified if you're not careful. I got rid of mine, or I'd show you the end result. Do it, if you aren't worried about looks. And don't use a belt sander. Kraton melts.
