ka-bar heavy bowie tang

I've been looking around for a nice bowie-style knife that I could do a re-handle project on. I like the steel and apparent toughness of the ka-bar bowie, and thought that would make a nice base knife for the project.

I'm planning on adding a brass guard and using a block of ironwood (or micarta...still not decided) for the handle, so I'm wondering if anybody has any info on the length and shape of the tang. Could the end of the tang be easily modified to take a threaded butt cap? Am I going to have to shape the area where the tang and blade meet in order to get a guard to slip on and lock in place?

There is a thread from a while back where someone took the handle off a Heavy Warthog (same handle/tang design) but I don't think they ever got around to finishing it. Some good pics of the tang there.

There's also a guy on youtube that took a heavy warthog and welded some material around the tang to create a full exposed tang.

You cab also find a pic of the LHB tang by typing the title of this thread in a google image search.

The tang juncture is not quite the same. It's a little rounded.
